James  McMurtry
& The Heartless Bastards
Friday Feb. 3, 2006
Liquid Lounge Dancehall

148 West St. - downtown Reno, NV
 - 8pm doors  9pm show -

All the gripes of the venue aside, James and The Bastards said it was the most fun they'd had on this tour...they loved the crowd and chugged out a seriously rich two hour set.

And NO, 1moe will never do a show in that venue again!
It was that or cancel.  All in all, we're halfway glad we did it.

Pure fun with great lyrics and Will's killer guitar work.  Todd's Snider's sit-in for a few songs really lit things up.

And Reno, as usual, 'stayed away in droves'.

The John Cowan Band
Hacienda
Thursday Feb. 16

This was flat the best instrumental ensemble with the best vocals I have seen in years.  Searing leads on fiddle, guitar, mando & banjo...and Cow's vocals...just outta this world!  What a great, great band!

I'm starting to see an inverse ratio between the quality of a band and the crowd size.  Not a good trend for poor little Reno... again swirling closer to that 'cultural desert' it used to be.

Absolutely one of the richest nights of original music in recent times.  Mary and the Hacienda fit like a glove and everybody seemed bowled over by her talent and soul.  Yeah man...

5:30-doors 8pm show

A FREE show in a market of 300,000 people and only a dozen or so could be bothered to show up to see this world-class songwriter and his absolute Wizard harmonica/piano compadre.  No radio, no print, no people.  The whole town could care less. What a statement...

An evening of pure Wilcox craftsmanship.  Upbeat, classy.  What a pro.  Rave feedback on Seth Horan.

Robert "Baba" O'Lear
mid-20th century - May 31, 2006
The great voice and mind of our brother is now truly silent.  May his spirit ROAR on!

Master of the now extinct art of pure free-form radio, this great spirit will be missed by all who knew & loved him.

Some $1600.00 was contributed!  This was all passed on to Ann O'Lear along with all your nice notes...THANK YOU!

Thanks to all who showed up, donated, helped out and listened in.

Todd was in prime form with lots of stories and tons of pure Toddness.  Brother Keith Sykes blew in a totally solid, understated set and the near capacity crowd slurped it all up in the near-perfect night air.

A gorgeous season opener!

As predicted, just another KILLER show with low attendance.  Well, like Elvin sez..."it's the squares that stayed home..."!

Seriously, Leo's tunes and persona just funked the place up like Hawkins has never been funked before. Sonny is just the single-most artistic power guitarist to come out of the Bayou in decades.  Add some great Red Beans and Rice...and YEAH!...

Bon Temps Roulet!

Kentucky Thunder
July 4
$50/$45

This was the purest night of music 1moe has ever produced on the Hawkins stage.  Perfect solos, perfect harmonies, perfect vocals and perfect gentlemen.  PERFECT WOW!

It's hard to grasp how many 'music lovers' weren't at this show.  Again, a spooky indicator that there is an inverse relationship in talent to crowd size.

Cowboy fiddler 16 year old Dillon Flournoy wowed the audience on this Fourth with some super-clean renditions of the Star Spangled Banner, some cowboy waltzes and left the crowd standing and singing "God Bless America".

Everybody's talkin' about Jason Wilber on this one.  One of the many reasons we at 1moe press on for 'opening acts'.  Every headliner was an opening act at some point.

Greg: sublime.

If you weren't there, catch his last DVD.  That's as close as you'll come to the experience the capacity crowd enjoyed this night.

Nothing normal here, just pure Hornsby.

To those of us who had not seen him live before, he made it clear why the heaviest of heavy musicians respect what this guy does.

Veteran session-man and record producer Lloyd Maines put it best sidestage during Kris' sound check that afternoon;

"There's big-ego rock stars out there that ain't worthy of carryin' this guy's guitar...".  Hear-ye!

Terri Hendrix & Lloyd set the evening's tones with Terri's unsinkable spirit and charm.

Wow, another night of sweetness at Hawkins!

Every year, Island Day sports the greatest spirits and nicest people to be had.  For those who have never been, you're missing some of the best flat-out pickin' and musicianship of any Hawkins shows.

The music this year was stunningly beautiful.  Rai's voice and spirit just captured beauty itself.

Well, this was just one of the best bass players in the world with one the most stylistic, inventive and versatile keyboard players ever.  Add a small monster on drums and WOW!  Jazz, Funk, R&B, Afro-Cuban, straight ahead Rock & Roll, they played it.
